What I think when I hear the words "be yourself".
Ok, well sure, it's a little cliche, but overall that advice is solid. Being fake gets you nowhere, believe me. In fact, it's harder and more awkward to not be yourself than it actually is to be yourself. Why stress? Just do the easy, natural, instinctive thing and be you. No one cares to know who you pretend to be..they wanna know the person you really are. "Be yourself". Yeah, it's solid. God made one you. Out of 7.5 billion people, there's only one (fill-in-the-blank). That's amazing! That the God of the universe would even care to make sinful man unique. Wow! Why would you wanna go around pretending to not be you? Isn't the person God made you to be adequate enough? ;) Is there someone else you'd rather be? Think about it.
If being yourself means you're a jerk..than maybe "be yourself" isn't the advice for you ;)
