I remember back when I was 10, 11, and 12 how envious I was of teenagers. They got to stay out "late" and drive and go to movies whenever they wanted. It always seemed like they had an endless amount of money..all the new 'gadgets' they could possibly want..all the free time in the world. Thinking back on it, I probably should've asked what it was really like..
'Cause I was really off..
I'm turning 16. Like halfway through being a teenager, right? Sadly, I've learned that it's true, "the grass isn't always greener on the other side". Yes, I've totally enjoyed being a teenager..but the way I was seeing things through my pre-teen eyes was totally and utterly false.
Yeah, you get to stay out late..but who wants to with that truck-load of Spanish and Algebra 2 homework waiting for you?? Movies..sure..which leads to the money. No, no, no. Even now, as I write, I'm thinking of how desperately I need..a JOB! Boy, was I shocked when the "cash flow" didn't change as soon as I turned 13. But back to movies. Almost 75% of the month, I can not afford to go to the movies..and it's a $3 movie! Gadgets..cellphones...more money..iPods..more money.
For years, I'd been waiting for the "glories" of teenage-ness to become mine. Now, I'm almost halfway through and they still haven't hit me!
Honestly, I don't understand why I'm writing any of this..but I have to believe that it's so all the pre-teens out there know. Be happy. Be content. Where you're at is great. Trust me. Having your parents pay for your stuff isn't that bad..;) In fact, it's totally awesome. So, enjoy it. Maybe what I'm saying now..is..
I want to be a pre-teen again?! Haha, now isn't that something...:P
One last detail...
find a job early..i'm talking 12 years old early and save..save every single cent it'll help..reeeeeally!
thank you for listening to my teenage ramblings.
